Aimi Kobayashi - young, talented Japanese pianist born in Ube, Yamaguchi in 1995, she began playing the piano at the age of three.

In 2001 Aimi had been the finalist of the PTNA Piano Competition, one of the biggest competitions in the world, for the 4th straight year

since 2001. She also won the Huper Piano Concours and the first-golden prize in Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia in 2004.

Aimi made her concert debut with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 8, she became the youngest winner in the PTNA Piano Competition (Junior G level) undesr 16 years old.

In 2005 she took the first prize at the 59th Student Music Competition of Japan at the age of 10, along with Aiko Iguchi Prize, Nomura Prize, Tsuzuki Music Prize as well as Mainichi Shogakusei Shinbun Prize.  She became the youngest winner in the 59-year history of the Student Music Competition of Japan (Sponsored by MAINICHI News Paper). 

Aimi made her her first international debut concert at La Salle Cortot Hall in Paris. Afterwords she appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York in June (sponsored by AADGT).  The concert at Carnegie was televised across Europe and Tokyo Metropolitan Television by France Televisions (LCI). Aimi appeared also on live NHK television in December.

In 2006 Aimi appeared as a soloist with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra at Tokyo Operacity Concert on Nippon Television's program "Late-evening Concert" in January. It was the first time for Yomiuri Nippon Symphony to play with the youngest soloist in ten years since it played with violinist Mayuko Kamio. 

She achieved another great success in the concert at Carnegie Hall in October.

In December she collaborated with Vladimir Spivakov, playing concerto in Moscow.  The press conference after the concert packed by three TV stations and 33 newspaper publishers was broadcasted overseas. (Sponsored by AADGT)

In 2007 Aimi performed as a soloist with Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at Suntory Hall in Tokyo in March. She made debut concert at AKUROSU Fukuoka Symphony Hall and made a big success in April. Again, Aimi was interviewed on the French TV station (LCI) which was broadcasted in France in May. For the third time she was interviewed on the LCI in November when she received a special lesson from visiting Maestro Eschenbach at NHK Hall, which produced a lot of reaction.

In 2008 she performed as a soloist playing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 with Spivakov and his Virtuoso Orchestra in Moscow and St. Petersburg in February, which achieved stunning success. 

She has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York for the 3rd. time. (Sponsored by AADGT).

In September, she has performed Beethoven No. 1 and Chopin No. 2 concertos in one night with Krakow Philharmonic in Poland.

She was selected as one of the major pianist among 16 others of Japan and performed No. 5 and 10 by Beethoven on New Years Eve for the series of "I love Beethven" at Opera City Hall in Tokyo.

In 2009, January 9th, she played chamber music with violinist Anastasia Chebotaneva at Nikkei Hall in Tokyo. On Jan. 27th. She appears again with Beethoven No. 1 and Chopin No. 2 concertos with Tokyo New City Orchestra at Opera City Hall in Tokyo.

She has been performing as a guest performer for PTNA's prize winner's concert across the country since she was 8 years old. Performing as a soloist with orchestra at the age of seven and she made her international debut at the age of nine. She won 3 Glory Award from Yamguchi Prefecture which is given to people for their outstanding contributions in the field of culture.  Aimi had lived in Yamaguchi Prefecture till February 2007. She has vigorously engaged in volunteer activities including charity concerts at schools, facilities and hospice.

Aimi's performance on the Internet site of You Tube has received over one million access at present day. She entered the preparatory division of Toho School of Music, since April 2007 as a scholarship student. She was given special subvention from Tokyo Club which is an incorporated association for promoting international friendship funded in 1884. 15-year-old pianist Aimi Kobayashi makes acting debut in film Sleep (Nemuri Yusurika)

15-year-old pianist Aimi Kobayashi (å°æ—愛実) is making her acting debut in a film called “Sleep (Nemuri Yusurika) by director Katsumi Sakaguchi. The film is scheduled to open in Japan this November, but it will first be screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam that is currently running from January 26 to February 6.

The movie is being shown in the festival’s Spectrum section.

Kobayashi, who plays the difficult role of the young daughter Natsume, was chosen for the part by Sakaguchi because it required a piano performance scene.

Kobayashi is a classical pianist born on September 23, 1995. As a pianist, she became the youngest winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia in 2004, when she was 9 years old. She has performed with various orchestras, and last year she released her debut album under EMI Music’s classical division. This April, she will hold a recital at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York, under the direction of conductor Seiji Ozawa.
