Earth Week
Ronnie Cummings, Organic Consumers Association
Monday, April 22 was Earth Day. We think Earth should be celebrated more than just once every 365 days.
In fact, if we don’t start celebrating Earth—or at least respecting it—every day, we may have nothing left to celebrate.
After the first designated Earth Day, April 22, 1970, Congress set up the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Laws were written. Progress was made.
Over time, corporate lobbyists have weakened those laws. Today, we have an administration that has unabashedly made it its mission to undermine, roll back and wipe out that progress.
In the meantime, the list of environmental crises we face has grown in both scope and scale.
Isn’t it time for a Green New Deal for Mother Earth?
