BP Moves Into Gulf Coast: Building “BP City” For Workers
by Meenal Vamburkar
The 32-acre plot of land will be transformed into a BP City, fully equipped with dining and laundry services, as well as 24-hour police. The “city in its own” will have a military feel, with bunk-style housing. Plus, the workers have to abide by certain rules, including “no alcohol.”
CNN’s Jim Acosta said once the workers “check in to this BP City, it might be a while before they check out.” The company says they could be there for three to six months.
The driving notion behind the project is “to keep the workers closer to clean-up activities.” But “BP City Neighbor” Israel Garza told CNN that he was not informed about the construction, and other residents were not either. The construction workers, on the other hand, said they were happy to be building something on the coast.
Though BP’s plans are in full-swing, the city still does not have a name yet.
