Support strong wilderness for Idaho’s Owyhee Canyonlands
Dear Patrick H.,
In 2009, President Obama signed legislation designating 517,000 acres of new wilderness and 325 miles of wild and scenic rivers in Idaho’s spectacular Owyhee Canyonlands. This milestone was Idaho’s first wilderness in over 30 years.
Now, the Bureau of Land Management needs to make plans to manage this spectacular landscape for important fish and wildlife habitat and outstanding hiking, camping, and fishing opportunities.
You can help chart the future of these new areas for years to come by commenting on the management plan proposed by the Bureau of Land Management. Please urge the BLM to adopt a plan that protects these wilderness lands from damaging off-road vehicles and exotic invasive weeds and promotes recreation that doesn’t harm the environment.
Without a mandate for active stewardship, illegal ATV trails will scar these desert landscapes, invasive weed infestations will threaten native forage for wildlife, and actions illegal under the 1964 Wilderness Act like commercial trapping of animals like bobcats will continue.
Tell the BLM your support for their proposed wilderness plan for the Idaho’s Owyhee Canyonlands.
Help protect Idaho’s Owyhee Canyonlands
Support strong wilderness for Idaho’s Owyhee Canyonlands
Sincerely,
The Wilderness Society
