Gov. Rick Scott: Ban styrofoam in Florida

Styrofoam is a type of plastic that can remain in the environment for hundreds of years. It often breaks into small pieces that can choke and poison birds and marine animals.
Environmental experts say plastics like styrofoam make up 60% - 90% of the waste that litters beaches and coastal waters – a major reason why cities all over Florida have acted to ban single-use styrofoam containers.
With Florida’s large coastline, a statewide ban on styrofoam would not just benefit the state, but support improving the health of our oceans at large. Florida resident Cynthia Woscek is calling on Florida Governor Rick Scott to ban styrofoam statewide. Your signature can help move Gov. Scott to action.
Cynthia is working against industry leaders who have spent tremendous amounts of money to fight local and state efforts to ban styrofoam. She started this petition to persuade Florida leaders to put citizens and the health of our oceans ahead of the styrofoam industry's bottom line.
If you believe that citizens should have the power to decide what kind of environment they want for their cities and the tourists that visit them, please sign and share this petition today.
Thank you for taking action,
Sylvia Rolle
