Some say the key to happiness is living in the moment – but you’d likely find more success if you’re living those moments in one of America’s 12 happiest cities.
A new analysis from WalletHub released March 12 compared 182 of the largest cities in the U.S. to determine which ones are the “happiest” in 2018. The site evaluated each city based on three dimensions: 1) emotional and physical well-being, 2) income and employment and 3) community and environment.
Emotional and physical well-being was assessed based on life satisfaction, sports participation, illness and disability, life expectancy, and rates of depression, suicide, sleep, opioid prescriptions and marijuana use, among other factors.
Income and employment was evaluated based on commute times, weekly work hours, job satisfaction, job security, household income and rates of unemployment/underemployment, bankruptcy, income growth and poverty.
Community and environment scores were assessed based on strength of social ties, separation and divorce, acres of parkland, ideal weather, average leisure time spent in a day and how the city ranked on WalletHub’s list of Most Caring Cities.
The key ingredients for happiness include a “positive mental state, healthy body, strong social connections, job satisfaction and financial well-being,” according to WalletHub.
