Days After Romney Votes To Remove Trump – Mitt’s Approval Rating Takes A Turn In His Home State Of Utah
Adam Casalin
Oh, Mitt Romney. We had such high hopes for you. After promising to work with the president as a senator, you were the only flip vote against him.
Romney was the only Republican (in both the House or Senate) to vote against Trump in the impeachment.
The good news, of course, is that the rest of the Republicans in the Senate cleared Trump’s name.
Criticism against Sen. Romney has come in thick and fierce. Many are demanding that he be ejected from the party.
Others think he should simply get in line and unite with other Republicans in support of Trump.
What really matters now, though, is how people back home think of him.
From Utah Policy:
Sen. Mitt Romney’s approval ratings have dropped 10 points overall, and most significantly among Republican voters in Utah, according to a new Utah Political Trends survey.
The UtahPolicy.com/2 News poll from Y2 Analytics finds 36% of Utah voters say they approve of Romney’s job performance, while 49% disapprove. In a previous survey from October of last year, 46% of Utahns approved of how he’s handling his job while 51% disapproved.
Oooh, that doesn’t look good. Since Mitt turned against Trump, he lost 10 approval points among Utah voters.
Most significant was the fact that Republican voters in Utah are starting to disapprove of his performance.
It’s hard to not see why. Republicans across the country have come together to support the president. Every last Republican in Congress voted against impeachment, except Romney.
Why did he—out of all conservative lawmakers—think it was right to convict the president?
That’s the big question he’ll have to answer to voters back home. And he might not have much time to do it. He’s up for re-election in 2024.
But some in Utah are working to pass a bill that will give voters the chance to recall him long before that.
