A key witness in the Hunter Biden saga reported Thursday that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was aware of his son’s lucrative overseas business deals, even if he did not play an active part in them.

This further establishes what we already knew: Hunter Biden used his father’s name to enrich himself and the foreign companies from which he profited, and Joe Biden sat back and let it happen.

Just look at the way the Biden team is changing its story. Last week, Joe Biden claimed he had never discussed Hunter Biden’s business dealings with his son or anyone else in his family. But this week, Biden’s campaign switched gears and said Joe Biden “never even considered being involved in business with his family, nor in any overseas business whatsoever.” Which is it? Was the former vice president really unaware that his son was cashing in using his political connections, or did he just choose to keep his distance from whatever was happening?

All of the evidence points to the latter. Hunter Biden’s former business partner Anthony Bobulinski told the Wall Street Journal that he took part in a meeting with Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and Joe Biden’s brother James Biden in 2017 in which they discussed “the Biden family business plans with the Chinese, of which [Joe Biden] was plainly familiar at least at a high level.” Emails obtained from a laptop that allegedly belonged to Hunter Biden reveal that Hunter Biden discussed giving a cut of his earnings to “the big guy,” who Bobulinski identified as Joe Biden. And back in 2015, after Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent warned Joe Biden’s office that Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine looked “terrible” for the Obama administration, since Joe Biden was in charge of Ukraine policy at the time, Kent was told the vice president didn’t have the “bandwidth” to deal with Hunter Biden.

It sure seems like Joe Biden knew what his son was up to. He just chose not to do anything about it. And this deliberate negligence is still a big problem, regardless of whether Joe Biden played an active role in Hunter Biden’s deals, because it speaks to a level of swampy corruption that has plagued Washington for decades.

Hunter Biden used his family’s legacy and his father’s political influence to benefit himself and at least one other member of the Biden family. That’s corrupt. Joe Biden did not try to stop him, even though his son’s business dealings presented a serious conflict of interest and a potential national security crisis. That’s unjustifiable, and Joe Biden knows it.
