Wild Horse Advocate Files for Halt to Alleged BLM Wild Horse Helicopter Abuse

Dust and Heat by Laura Leigh
Thursday the founder of Wild Horse Education.org (WHE) and VP of Wild Horse Freedom Federation (WHFF) Laura Leigh filed for a Temporary Restraining Order against the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) helicopter driven wild horse stampede in Nevada’s Triple-B complex. This action comes only one day after Leigh, agent for WHFF, filed a formal complaint alleging that the BLM violates its own standard of humane care for the management of America’s wild horses and burros. Thousands of photographs and hours of video have shocked the U.S. public regarding the overly aggressive and inhumane practices utilized by contractors of the BLM.
The challenges of the TRO reads in part:
“1. The BLM’s contractor, Sun-J, repeatedly employs methods of rounding up
wild horses including those from Triple B, which contravene methods mandated by the
BLM’s own Environmental Assessment and which also contravene those methods
mandated of the contractor by the BLM’s contract issued to Sun-J.
2. The BLM’s contractor, “Sun-J,” repeatedly employs inhumane methods of
rounding up wild horses including those from Triple B. Relevant law requires the BLM
to employ humane methods when removing excess wild horses from BLM managed
public lands.
3. The BLM maintains authority to enforce its own mandate on methods to
be employed when conducting roundup activities. The BLM, although present during
Sun-J’s roundup activities, refuses to enforce its own mandate on required methods of
conducting roundup activities.”
BLM contractor “Sun-J” has employed a helicopter pilot that allegedly utilizes his aircraft as a weapon versus a tool and has managed to spark the interest of the FAA in so doing.
