Trump got a major win at the Supreme Court on immigration on Wednesday as the court sided with him in a major immigration reform case. This case should have been an easy win for the Trump administration, and for the most part it was, more challenges are sure to come though.
The case lifted the nationwide injunction and the injunction within the 9th circuit on Trump’s asylum policy that requires a migrant to seek asylum in the first “safe” country they enter. If this requirement is not met, they cannot seek asylum in the United States.
The injunction was lifted and allows complete enforcement of the rule while the challenges to it work through the court process.
The court handed Trump a 7-2 victory, this means that some liberal justices sided with the Trump administration. Here are the Justices and how they voted:

Niel Gorsuch, a Trump appointed Justice, ruled in favor of the Trump administration. This came as little surprise as Gorsuch has been a solid conservative vote on immigration related cases since day 1.

John Roberts, appointed by George W. Bush, ruled in favor of the Trump administration on this case. Roberts can flip both ways but even if he had sided with the liberal justices the win would still have been handed to the Trump administration.

Sonia Sotomayor, appointed by Barack Obama, was the second dissenting vote that ruled right alongside Ruth Bader Ginsberg. This comes as no surprise as she is a reliable liberal vote, there is never much of a chance of getting Sotomayor to vote conservative.
