Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam, already beleaguered by affirming infanticide in a radio interview, ended the week confronted by the unearthing of a medical school yearbook photo showing a man in blackface and another person in a hooded KKK-style robe.

One of the figures is Northam, and he didn’t say which one in an apology issued late Friday.

“I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and do the hurt that decision caused then and now,” Northam said.

“This behavior is not in keeping with who I am today and the values I have fought for throughout my career in the military, in medicine, and in public service. But I want to be clear, I understand how this decision shakes Virginians’ faith in that commitment.”

Just days ago, Florida Secretary of State Mike Ertel resigned after photos of him in blackface appeared.

The chairman of Virginia’s Republican Party said in a statement prior to Northam’s confirmation that the governor needs to resign “immediately” if he is either person in the photo.

The Virginian-Pilot newspaper of Norfolk reported the image appeared on a page with several other photos of Northam with his name at the top.

The page is from the 1984 yearbook of Eastern Virginia Medical School.

A caption under the controversial photo lists Northam’s alma mater, Virginia Military Institute, his interest in “pediatrics” and a quote: “There are more old drunks than old doctors in this world so I think I’ll have another beer.”

WND reported Northam stirred controversy Wednesday in an interview with WTOP radio in Washington about a pro-abortion bill in his state.

“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physicians, more than one physician, by the way,” Northam said.

“And it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that’s non-viable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother. So I think this was really blown out of proportion.”

President Trump said in an interview with the Daily Caller that Northam’s comments were “terrible” and would “lift up the whole pro-life movement like maybe it’s never been lifted up before.”

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tweeted, “This is horrific.”
