San Carlos Reservation, AZ — The Apache people have long occupied the region of Arizona’s Tonto National Forest, known as Oak Flat. In 1955, President Eisenhower removed it from consideration for mining activities due to its natural and cultural importance to the Apache tribe.
However, thanks to Senator John McCain, all their sacred history would be placed in fatal jeopardy.
In December 2014, Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) added a rider to the National Defense Authorization Act that opened the land to mining conglomerates Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.
As if having their sacred land sold out from underneath them to mining interests wasn’t enough, the Forest Service announced earlier this month that they would begin killing off their wild horses. Seriously.
In the notice, the Forest Service said it will begin removal of the more than 100 horses on Aug. 7, stating they are “unauthorized livestock” and therefore cannot be there. However, they haven’t yet begun killing the horses.
Then, to further their distrust in America’s government, the EPA dumped a million gallons of toxic sludge into the Animas and the San Juan Rivers. These two rivers are a tribal water source known to the Navajo Nation as the “lifeline of the Navajo people.”
So, after they got wind of the senator making a visit to Window Rock over the weekend, one can imagine how upset the people were. Prior to being chased out of town by the activists, Adriano Tsinigine was able to sneak in an epic example of trolling of the senator.
After this perfect moment of trolling, McCain, who was in town to celebrate some hollow gesture of a Navajo Code Talkers Museum, was met by a mob of angry protesters as he attempted to enter the museum.
The entire momentous event was captured on video. When the activists first saw him, they jumped to their feet, still engaged in song and began to storm the senator’s vehicle entourage. They were quickly met with a heavy police presence, but they remained unfazed as they continued on to chase down McCain.
In what can only be described as a glorious victory, the video shows McCain’s official vehicle speeding off in an attempt to lose the angry activists.
