The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, introduced by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), would have guaranteed medical care and legal protection to babies born alive during late-term abortions.
Even in Western Europe's socialist democracies, Sasse's proposal is considered common sense.
The United States is one of only seven countries that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, the point when a fetus is typically considered viable outside the womb.
However, Senate Democrats made sure Sasse's bill failed yesterday.
Three Democrats did buck their party to vote in favor of making the most extreme forms of abortion illegal.
Every Republican voted in favor of protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
Don't forget this. Vote next time.

Democratic Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey, a Catholic, identifies as pro-life.
He previously expressed support for overturning Roe v. Wade. However, a 2018 Politico article painted a decidedly different picture:
"[a]fter a decade in the Senate, Casey has become an increasingly reliable vote in support of abortion rights — scoring as high as 100 percent on NARAL Pro-Choice America's vote tally in 2016 and 2017 ... although his 2018 rating is sure to be lower."
In 2018, Casey made history as the first Democrat in Keystone State history to win a third consecutive term to the U.S. Senate.

The Alabama Democrat won a surprise upset over a scandal-plagued Republican challenger.
Political prognosticators, like Stuart Rothenberg, see Jones' victory as a fluke in ruby red Alabama and that it doesn't matter which Republican candidate prevails in the primary as long as it isn't Roy Moore.
Despite yesterday's vote, Jones' record defies the priorities of the average Alabamian. He's already voted against the nomination of Justice Brett Kavanaugh and an amendment to defund Planned Parenthood.

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin represents the second most pro-Trump state in America, at least by the president's margin of victory on election night 2016.
Manchin's vote didn't come as a surprise, given his recent actions. When President Trump called for an end to abortions after babies can feel pain during his State of the Union address, Manchin stood and applauded.
