TRUMP MAKES SURPRISE THANKSGIVING VISIT TO AFGHANISTAN
A secret visit began Wednesday to get President Trump to Afghanistan for a surprise Thanksgiving visit with the troop of our nation's longest war.
Newsweek even had to retract a report claiming Trump would spend the day tweeting and playing golf.
The visit was President Trump's first to the country since taking office in January of 2017.
According to Town Hall:
President Trump made an unannounced trip to Afghanistan to visit American troops stationed at Bagram Air Base over the Thanksgiving holiday.
“We are winning like we have not won in a long time, we were respected like we have not been respected in a long time,” Trump told the troops, reports the Post. “Our citizens know that we are standing guard, crushing our enemies … I am here today to just really say, happy Thanksgiving, but also thank you very much.”
“There is nowhere I’d rather celebrate this Thanksgiving than right here,” said Trump, who proceeded to call the troops the “toughest, strongest, best and bravest warriors on the face of the earth,” according to the Associated Press.
Trump also announced during the trip that the U.S. had resumed peace negotiations with the Taliban, saying that “the Taliban wants to make a deal. We’ll see if they want to make a deal. It’s got to be a real deal, but we’ll see. But they want to make a deal,” according to CNN.
Trump mentioned during the trip that he wants to reduce troops from 12,000 to 8,600 during his speech.
The press pool on the trip consisted of one Fox News reporter. He was accompanied by Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere, and Sen. John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming.
The secret trip consisted of Trump being snuck out of Mar-a-Lago and flown on a stripped-down plane to Andrews AFB where he then got on Air Force One.
