Is Trump Giving This Cabinet Member the Ax?
According to sources in a new report, President Trump hasn’t ruled out firing Attorney General William Barr.
Earlier this week, AG Barr told the Associated Press that the Justice Department has “uncovered no evidence of fraud that could shift the outcome of the 2020 election to Trump.
“To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election,” Barr said.
Saying Trump is disappointed in Barr’s revelation would be an understatement. Just yesterday Trump “lashed out” at AG Barr (NBC News):
“He hasn’t done anything. He hasn’t looked” for voter fraud, Trump complained at an event at the White House, adding that Barr’s investigators “haven’t looked very hard,” either, “which is a disappointment, to be honest with you.”
Asked whether he still had confidence in his attorney general, Trump said: “Ask me that in a number of weeks from now. They should be looking at all of this fraud. This is not civil. He thought it was civil. This is not civil. This is criminal stuff. This is very bad, criminal stuff.” He did not answer follow-up questions about his timeline. Trump’s term ends in less than seven weeks.
Two people familiar with the Trump-Barr tensions and an administration official told NBC News that President Trump “has not ruled out firing Barr”
Another report said that Trump and Barr had a “lengthy” and “contentious” meeting inside the West Wing this week.
A spokesman for the Justice Department told the Washington Post, “[t]he Department will continue to receive and vigorously pursue all specific and credible allegations of fraud as expeditiously as possible.”
FUN FACT: Barr is the second man to serve as Attorney General under two different presidents (Bush 43, Trump). The first was John /Crittenden served under Presidents William Harrison, John Tyler and Millard Fillmore
