FEINSTEIN'S DOOMED GUN BILL SQUEAKS BY SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

Senator Dianne Feinstein’s bill outlawing so-called assault weapons was approved today on a party-line vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The draconian bill designating an entire classification of firearms as illegal squeaked by on a 10-8 vote by the Democrat-controlled committee. If enacted, the law will make semiautomatic weapons the government considers military illegal. The legislation proposes to also ban so-called “high-capacity” magazines, a term Second Amendment advocates say is politically loaded.
Republican Ted Cruz, derided by Hearst’s San Francisco Chronicle as a “Tea Party-backed newcomer,” asked Feinstein whether she would “deem it consistent with the Bill of Rights” if Congress imposed restrictions on the First Amendment.
In response, Feinstein said the American people do not “need a bazooka.”
The California Senator’s proposed bill includes a restriction on “rocket launchers” attached to firearms despite the fact such devices are already illegal under the National Firearms Act and are not standard components of the firearms Feinstein wants to ban, the NRA notes.
Feinstein said she will need help from the Obama administration if she hopes to get the legislation passed by the full Senate. It is widely considered a foregone conclusion that the bill will fail to pass due to opposition by Republicans and a number of Democrats who support the Second Amendment.
“I’d like to see everybody doing more,” Feinstein said on Wednesday. “Yes, absolutely, we need help. We have the 800-pound gorilla out there,” Feinstein added, making a pointed reference to the National Rifle Association.
