Don't Trust Them
Dudley Brown - National Gun Rights
Who in President Obama’s administration do you trust with your Second Amendment rights?
Perhaps the President himself? Eric Holder? John Kerry?
What about the IRS, which was caught red-handed not long ago targeting Tea Party and pro-limited government organizations?
These questions may all seem silly to you right now . . .
But after the recent tragedy in Washington, D.C., I’m afraid the gun-grabbers’ are ready to launch yet another all-out assault on our Second Amendment rights in the coming weeks.
And this time, they just might get everything they want.
That’s why I need to cut through the outright LIES being told right now by members of BOTH parties regarding “mental health” issues and gun control -- before it’s too late.
As you may know, I’ve been warning about this coming fight for months now . . .
After the NRA Executive Vice President’s appearance on Meet the Press last week, I’m more fearful than ever.
President Obama, BILLIONAIRE New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the rest of the gun-grabbers are still desperate to pass gun control to please their anti-gun base.
Weak-kneed Republicans and pro-gun Democrats want desperately to say they’ve “stood up for the Second Amendment” while telling the anti-gun national media they “did something” to stop future tragedies.
Of course, there are already laws on the books stating that criminals and those adjudicated as mentally unstable are barred from owning firearms.
But that’s not what the gun-grabbers and those who claim to support gun rights are talking about.
They want new Obama administration bureaucrats armed with the power to strip massive numbers of Americans of their Second Amendment rights without any cause or recourse.
Yet months ago, the National Rifle Association even took the step of endorsing a new National Mental Health Database.
And on Meet the Press last week, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre stated:
To the general public -- which NEVER gets the full truth regarding gun control from the anti-gun media -- new “mental health” restrictions don’t seem dangerous.
As radical as the steps gun-grabbers are pursuing really are, the NRA’s support means causing many Second Amendment supporters to let their guard down.
I hate to say it.
But when it comes to our gun rights here, the NRA is flat-out and completely wrong.
After all, no one wants to run into a madman with a gun.
But the truth is, when it comes to picking their targets, madmen are virtually always sane enough to choose so-called “gun free zones.”
So-called “gun free zones” -- better-known as criminal safety zones -- guarantee criminals and madmen never run into anyone who can defend themselves when they go on a rampage.
As economist John Lott states:
I know you’re not surprised.
The gun-grabbers have always wanted us to believe that something as simple as a tin sign with “no guns” written on it is enough to stop a killer.
They want us to believe government-run checks and databases will protect us.
Perhaps in a make-believe land of unicorns and fairy dust.
But in the real world, evil exists.
And tin signs, databases and government-run checks don’t stop those bent on murder.
Criminals and thugs most often do not get their guns legally. Like the Connecticut killer, they often steal them.
Furthermore, estimates are that only about 60% of those with real mental illness seek treatment.
So right off the bat, this system is already guaranteed to fail just under half the time!
But the ONLY way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
So long as the gun-grabbers disarm Americans with so-called “gun free zone” signs and other misguided gun control laws, stopping the bad guys will only be that much harder.
Sadly, new “mental health” restrictions are designed to do exactly that.
Some new so-called “mental health” restrictions already throw out the adjudication requirement to strip someone of their Second Amendment rights.
In fact, news reports are that roughly 30% of the nearly 900,000 Iraq and Afghanistan War vets have been treated by the Department of Veterans Affairs for PTSD.
These astounding figures only add to the hundreds of thousands of military veterans whose reward for serving their country in war is the loss of their Second Amendment rights.
But to the gun-grabbers, that doesn’t go far enough.
As I mentioned, the power they crave is the preemptive power to strip law-abiding citizens of their gun rights based on the most spurious of charges -- without adjudication.
And the gun-grabbers believe the groundwork has already been laid to classify as many Americans as possible as mentally unstable, including:
*** New estimates by the World Health Organization that roughly one in five American youngsters will have some sort of mental health problems every year;
*** ABC News reports one in five American adults experience some sort of mental illness every year;
*** Estimates by U.S. Surgeon General Steven Galson that 46.4% of Americans experience some sort of mental illness during their lives!
To the gun-grabbers, disarming up to 50% of the American population within a year or two’s time sounds like a dream come true.
Have you ever gone through a traumatic experience?
Have you ever lost a friend or family member?
If you’ve complained to the wrong person or if you’ve been prescribed anything that could be enough for you to lose your gun rights.
And Obamacare’s massive national database provides just the tool they need to make it happen.
Once the “box is checked” next to your name, your gun rights could be gone . . .
Do you and I really trust Obama administration bureaucrats -- many of them anti-gun lefties -- to play fair with this incredible new power?
In recent years, we’ve seen the Department of Homeland Security issue “possible terrorist threat” warnings about those who:
-- Believe their “way of life” is under attack;
-- Are “suspicious of centralized federal authority;”
-- Are “reverent of individual liberty,” fly a U.S. flag or put patriotic stickers on their cars.
Do you fit into any of these categories?
I fit into every one -- and probably a few more.
Think about it.
Should the gun-grabbers in BOTH parties get their way, keeping your Second Amendment rights intact could depend on the good will of an Obama administration bureaucrat.
Is that really the situation you and I want?
Of course not.
Is it the situation the NRA really wants?
Well, it’s what weak-kneed but self-described pro-gun members of both parties want . . .
And in today’s Washington, D.C. -- for far too many organizations -- that’s all that matters.
Making and keeping politician “friends” matters more than fighting for principle.
You and I saw that when the NRA handed out nearly $5,000 in campaign cash to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the midst of his tough reelection race in 2010.
But Senator Reid didn’t stay bought . . .
He’s now leading the fight for gun control in the U.S. Senate -- along with more than a handful of NRA “A-rated” Senators like President Obama’s Senate ringleader, Joe Manchin, and his “token” Republican, Pat Toomey.
Depending on these same old tactics -- and depending on politicians to stay loyal is a recipe for disaster.
Patrick, the hard lesson here is that politicians NEVER stay bought.
They don’t care about principle. They don’t care about the friends they make.
They care about their own political careers.
The way you and I win is by proving to politicians that voting against us is bad for their political careers.
That’s why the National Association for Gun Rights is now the lead dog fighting for gun rights in Washington, D.C.
During the Senate fight earlier this year -- thanks to the support of good folks like you -- NAGR outspent all other pro-gun groups (including the NRA) COMBINED.
Our mission was to simply turn up the heat on politicians.
It worked. As Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) stated:
Quite simply, I don’t care about making friends.
We have some, sure.
But they’re men and women of principle who are attracted to us because of what we stand for.
Not because we throw fancy cocktail parties, cut smoky backroom deals or cozy up to politicians and make excuses for them.
I know this is all “politics as usual” for slick establishment lobbyists in Washington, D.C.
Your National Association for Gun Rights cares only about protecting your Second Amendment rights -- and holding politicians accountable who don’t.
And good folks like you are the REAL reason that NAGR is turning heads in Washington, D.C.
Patrick, like you, I want to stop madmen from terrorizing innocent Americans.
I know you do too.
New “mental health” restrictions aren’t going to solve anything.
I know they’re a “feel good” solution for some.
They’re designed to prey on our common decency -- our heartache for victims’ families and our desire to appear “reasonable.”
But to the gun-grabbers, they’re something far more sinister.
No matter what other organizations do, your National Association for Gun Rights will never cower in the corner or pull the wool over your eyes.
With your help, your National Association for Gun Rights will continue to loudly shout the truth that our Second Amendment rights are not the problem.
They are the solution.
For Freedom,
Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President
P.S. Your National Association for Gun Rights depends on the generosity of good folks like you for our effectiveness.
If at all possible, please chip in $10 or $20 to help us keep up the fight in Washington, D.C.!
