The Second Amendment is under attack, and some counties are stepping up to the challenge by making sanctuary laws, not for illegal immigrants, but rather the Second Amendment. These counties are often in the most liberal states, but the gun owners in them have risen up to the defy the unconstitutional rules that zealous politicians have put in place.

1.) Douglas County, Colorado

Douglas County, Colorado is a densely populated county making up some of Denver's most affluent suburbs. 

It is home to beautiful mountain vistas, a love for the Second Amendment, and well-known in the state as a Republican stronghold.

2.) El Paso County, Colorado

El Paso County, Colorado has a population around 700,000. The county contains Colorado Springs and surrounding communities, one of the nation's most conservative cities with a large number of Evangelical Christians.

Mesa County, Colorado is home to about 150,000 people. The county is known for its beautiful landscapes, including the iconic Grand Mesa for which it was named and the rapidly-growing community of Grand Junction.

4.) Weld County, Colorado

On the frontier of the Rockies, Weld County, Colorado is home to about 300,000 people, part of the Denver metropolitan area. 

The county seat is Greeley, one of the fastest-growing cities in the Front Range Urban Corridor. Forbes magazine has consistently ranked the community of 110,000 as one of the best places in America for job growth.

LaSalle County, Ilinois is located at the extreme southwest edge of the Chicago metropolitan area and has an estimated population of 115,000. 

Fortunately, LaSalle County is different than Chicago in many ways, chief among them its Republican-leaning sensibilities.

6.) Macon County, Illinois

Macon County, Illinois is located in the dead center of the state and has a population of roughly 100,000. The county seat is Decatur.

Although the county became heavily Democratic during the New Deal era, it has shifted far to the right since 2000.

7.) Madison County, Illinois

Madison County, Illinois is part of the St. Louis metropolitan statistical area and home to more than 250,000 people. 

The ancient Native American city of Cahokia once thrived there. Over a millennia ago, it may have been one of the biggest cities in the world. Today the Cahokia Mounds are a World Heritage Site.

In 2016, Donald Trump carried the county by the largest margin of any presidential candidate since Richard Nixon in 1972.

8.) Tazewell County, Illinois

Tazewell County, Illinois, is located in the heart of the state and has around 130,000 people. The county has remained solidly Republican at the national level since 1996.

9.) Carroll County, Maryland

Carroll County, Maryland is located northwest of Baltimore and has a population a little over 150,000. Despite its rapid urbanization, the county is vastly different than that of Baltimore, with more guns and a lot less crime.

Cecil County, Maryland, in existence since the late 1600s, is one of the oldest in the country, located in the northeastern part fo Maryland.

As of the latest census, the county's population is just shy of 103,000. 

The county is right at the top of the Chesapeake Bay, so tender, delicate blue crabs are a dime a dozen.

11.) Harford County, Maryland

Harford County lies in the northeast part of the state with an estimated population of 250,000. 

The county has the ignominious distinction of being the birthplace and home of John Wilkes Booth.

On a more positive note, it is a solidly Republican region today, with no Democratic presidential candidate carry the county since Lyndon Johnson mopped the floor with Barry Goldwater.

San Juan County, New Mexico, is one the best counties in America when it comes to natural landmarks. 

Between the New Mexico portion of the Four Corners, the Aztec Ruins National Monument, and prominent rock formations, like the majestic Shiprock, there's always something to see.

The county seat is Farmington, with a population hovering at 45,000.

Douglas County, Oregon is home to roughly 110,000 people and is located right next to Crater Lake National Park. The natural beauty in this area is only bested by the protections it offers the Second Amendment.

Despite lying a few dozen miles from downtown Portland, Linn County, Oregon is a conservative bastion. No Democratic presidential candidate has won it since Jimmy Carter in 1976. 

Its 130,000 residents support the Second Amendment regardless of what Portland's self-indulgent liberals have to say.

Cowlitz County, Washington has an estimated population of 103,000, all included in the Portland-Vancouver-Salem, OR-WA Combined Statistical Area. 

The county was reliably Democratic for decades. Even Walter Mondale won here during Ronald Reagan's 49-state 1984 landslide. However, Donald Trump prevailed with a majority of Cowlitz County voters in 2016.

Spokane County, Washington is home to about 500,000 people, making it the fourth-most populous county in the state. Its seat is Spokane, the second-largest city in the state.

At the national level, its been reliably Republican since the Clinton era.

Unlike the Western-third of Washington State, it is dominated by conservative politics at all levels of government.
