US sends troops to Chad to assist in finding kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls

The United States has deployed about 80 military personnel to Chad to support the operation aimed at “resolving the kidnapping situation” in Nigeria. These personnel will participate “in the operation of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft for missions over northern Nigeria and the surrounding area,” President Barack Obama said in a letter to Congress. President Obama said that the US forces will remain in Chad until its support “is no longer required” in finding and brining home more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.
