CNN: The Weaponization of Space?
CLASSIFIED UNMANNED CRAFT HAS NO MONEY TRAIL. The unmanned Air Force aircraft, Boeing X-37B is extremely classified. The Air Force will not discuss what kind of payloads it will deliver and some concerned citizens fear that it will be used to deliver weapons at high speed to war-torn locations.
Air Force Deputy Undersecretary for Space Programs, Gary Payton denies that the craft has "anything to do with the weaponization of space," insisting that it represents the next line of aircraft to perform Space Shuttle-like experiments. The Space Shuttle is scheduled for retirement in 2011.
The X-37B can stay in space for 270 days but the Air Force won't say how long it's staying up on any mission or exactly what it will be doing or how many billions of dollars it will be spending on the program.
