Conference on the Prevention of Child Abuse on March 3-4, 2014 at the

A statewide Conference designed to offer quality training and
information on topics and model programs of interest to leaders in
child abuse prevention: social workers, counselors, educators, child
care and youth workers, law enforcement personnel, medical & legal
professionals, foster parents, child welfare board volunteers,
elected officials, and other interested child advocates. Participants
may attend their choice of a variety of workshops on child abuse and
neglect prevention and educational programs or may select workshops
for specialized training credits and professional development.

*Nancy Kellogg, M.D.*
/Professor of pediatrics and head of the Division of Child Abuse/
/University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio/
Dr. Kellogg is recognized by her peers in Texas as a foremost
authority on sexual and physical abuse of children. Dr. Kellogg has
evaluated more than 10,000 children and teens for abuse over 26
years. She is a professor of pediatrics at the Health Science Center
and founding medical director of the Center for Miracles, a child
abuse and neglect assessment center, a collaboration of several
organizations.
*Robert F. Anda, MD, MS*
/Scientific Consultant (Medicine and Public Health Policy)/
/Co-PI and Co-Founder, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study/
/Captain, U.S Public Health Service (Ret.)/
Dr. Anda earned his MD from Chicago’s Rush Medical College in 1979,
and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. After earning an MS in
Epidemiology from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in
1984, he served for 2 years as an Epidemic Intelligence Service
Officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At
the CDC, Dr. Anda has served as an Epidemiologist in the Nutrition
Division, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Branch, the
Cardiovascular Health Studies Branch, and on the Task Force on
Genetics in Public Health. From 1992 to 1994, he was the Chief of
Epidemiology and the Surveillance Section in Cardiovascular Health.
Since 1993, Dr. Anda has been a co-Principal Investigator of the ACE
Study. He has authored and coauthored numerous publications on the
health and social implications of adverse childhood experiences.

*Rosalinda Mercado-Garza*
Born in Mexico but raised in Harlingen/San Benito area in the Rio
Grande Valley, Rosalinda Mercado-Garza is the eleventh child out of
13 in her family. Growing up in a family of former migrant workers,
she dreamed of a life beyond the fields. After 16 years as an
educator, she had the opportunity to share her experiences with her
parents, staff and students. Her family is complete with her husband
Genaro, daughter Gisele and son Gael. She is the author of an
autoethnographic novel, which offers insight into her life from
childhood to motherhood. In From Being Considered At-Risk to Becoming
Resilient she shares a glimpse of how a life filled with poverty and
abuse impacted the choices she made along the way to obtain her
education and achieve a more balanced professional and personal life.
These lived experiences are ones we can take with us in our career,
philanthropic work, as well as impart with family and friends.
The Conference has shown a tremendous increase in attendance over the
years making it the largest child abuse prevention conference in the
state. Persons including child protective services workers; social
workers; counselors/therapists; school personnel; foster parents;
medical, and law enforcement professionals; and individuals will make
up the realm of those in attendance.

Attendance of 800 individuals is expected.

As an exhibitor your name will be included on the Conference Program
and your agency/business can receive a 20% discount on the
registration fees for up to five registrants.
Exhibit tables will be located near the conference registration area
and meeting rooms to allow for maximum exposure at all times during
the conference. A table with dimensions of 2' X 6' will be
provided. The exhibit does not need to be manned. Exhibitors will be
responsible for the security of their exhibits.
