Nigeria’s government has denied reports that the Boko Haram Takfiri militants have abducted scores of women and children in the country’s northeast.
The government highlighted on Wednesday a lack of evidence despite reports from eyewitnesses.
There was “nothing on the ground to prove any act of abduction, as reported,” government spokesman Mike Omeri said.
“We hereby wish to state that based on available facts before us there was no abduction of 60 persons in Borno state,” Omeri added.
Media reports, however, say that the militants kidnapped 91 people — 31 boys and 60 girls and women — during attacks against villages in the northeastern state of Borno earlier this month.
Officials say Fulani tribesmen and farmers often make abrupt moves to different regions. Therefore, there is no act of kidnapping.
This comes as residents of Kummabza and the surrounding villages, where the attacks took place, are outraged over the government’s stance after they reported the abductions.
“This is happening. I can’t understand why they would say that. It has been confirmed,” said one of the villagers, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The military officials made a similar denial after the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls by the Boko Haram back in April.
Only after international outcry and condemnation did they retract their initial claims and pursue the abductors.
On April 14, the militants kidnapped 276 students from their secondary school in the town of Chibok in Borno.
Reports say 57 of the girls managed to escape, but 219 are still missing and international efforts to spot and rescue them have failed so far.
The Nigerian government has been under intense pressure by many people around the globe especially the girls’ families to secure their release.
Boko Haram — whose name means “Western education is forbidden” — says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.

I need to remind you that the west want to invade Nigeria and take over in order to make sure Nigerian oil isn’t sold for Yuans or any other currency other than toilet paper Federal Reserve IOUs.
