44,000 Americans Die!
Jim Kirwan
“More than 44,000 Americans die every year — 122 every day — due to lack of health insurance. That’s the startling finding of a new study — Health Insurance and Mortality in U.S. Adults –- that appears in the current issue of the American Journal of Public Health.
The 44,000 dead a year estimate is about two-and-a-half times higher than an estimate from the Institute of Medicine in 2002.
The Harvard-based researchers found that uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts, up from a 25 percent excess death rate found in 1993.
“The uninsured have a higher risk of death when compared to the privately insured, even after taking into account socioeconomics, health behaviors and baseline health,” said lead author Dr. Andrew Wilper. “We doctors have many new ways to prevent deaths from hypertension, diabetes and heart disease — but only if patients can get into our offices and afford their medications.”
“Historically, every other developed nation has achieved universal health care through some form of nonprofit national health insurance,” said study co-author Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, a professor of medicine at Harvard and a primary care physician in Cambridge, Massachusetts. “Our failure to do so means that all Americans pay higher health care costs, and 45,000 pay with their lives.” (1)
As a people we have disregarded history, so we repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again: to the point that we are now back to that place in time when vast numbers of Americans are now little more than sharecroppers, working for the next-generation of faceless-foreign owners that have stolen our lives. This is not ancient history; in fact as recently as 1965 Lady-bird Johnson, wife of the then president owned sharecroppers at the same time as LBJ was proposing his hypocritically malevolent “War-on-Poverty.” This was the LBJ that was proud of getting into politics by using dead voters from the local cemetaries. Just a few years further on, from this obscenity; wages for those that created the wealth in this country peaked, and have been going backwards ever since; yet nothing has been done to even speak about this crime against everyone that works. It has now become “normal” for the corporations to actually own the lives of those that ‘work for them.’ Employees are paid for only for a tiny fraction of the time they actually spend on the corporation’s behalf; and are told by way of compensation: “The good news is that you ‘still have a job!”
Yet ‘the rules’ continue to change. People’s personal habits have become an unpaid part of every job. For employers; the privacy, the time-off, the dress-codes, and hours to be worked have nothing to do with what an employee wants; IF that employee wants to keep his or her token job. Productivity of the wage-slaves must always rise, while wages remain stagnant or are cut to reduce the cost of labor, while fattening up the retirement, the bonuses and the pure profits for the owners. This is as at least as evil as is the ‘founding-fact of:
“Taxation Without Representation is Tyranny!”
Yesterday Pelosi offered us her solution to solve the annual problem of 44,000 deaths a year from the government’s failure to address health CARE: However Pelosi’s 1,990 pages ought to used to prosecute her and the entire congress for this attempt to further deny Americans’ real health care: And this legislation (all 1,990 pages of it) should become exhibit A, in her murder-trail for the deaths of all the people that her criminal behavior has killed since Cheney-Bush took over and since she sold-out her constituency and her duties as Speaker of the House to those that want us dead. Beginning with her interference with the right of the citizens to impeach a sitting president, when she so famously said “Impeachment is Off the Table!” Incidentally under her bill the number of children that will continue to die from the lack of health-care will continue to rise—the only difference is that those that paid her off to craft this crime-against every American that is not rich; make even greater profits from our continued losses, to premature death and disease.
Hanging is the price of TREASON in a time of war, and when the casualty figures are as high as they are now, not only from the WARS she was complicit in promoting, but from the much higher death toll of the civilian population that she was entrusted with protecting—then ‘hanging’ is insufficient—but some direct action must still be taken to confront & remove this woman that has betrayed this country hundreds of times over since 2001.(When her record is consulted, she has NEVER failed to deliver whatever the Zionists have demanded from the tax-payers of this country): This too must finally be openly investigated.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants you to read all 1,990 pages of the Obamacare plan. “We are putting it online for all Americans to see,” she announced. Most Americans will probably not read the bill. You’ll need Washington-ese decoder ring to plow through the monstrosity.
If you are adventurous, here is a link to Pelosi’s “transparent” bill.
Republican John Boehner has posted the details of this boat anchor tribute to coercive government on his website. According to Boehner, the government take-over of health care includes: a plethora of new taxes on middle class families, massive cuts to Medicare benefits, no protections for small business, increased costs in the form of higher premiums, budget gimmickry to hide the massive total cost for future generations, imposes job-killing employer mandates, rigs the health care game in favor of a government-run insurance company, forces unfunded mandates on the states, adds more arcane gobbledegook to the tax code, and much more.
In fact, the bill — excluding the creation of the Federal Reserve and confiscatory income taxes — is the largest and most egregious intervention of the government into the private lives of Americans in history.
Americans for Tax Reform have posted the following points taken from the bill:
Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent ($670,000-$750,000).
Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.
Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.
Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).
Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.” This ‘outline’ continues in the article. (3)
How many more people must die to appease the appetites of the super-rich and the totally corrupt?
“It estimated that lack of health insurance causes 44,789 excess deaths annually. Previous estimates from the Institute of Medicine and others had put that figure near 18,000.
The methods used in the Harvard were similar to those employed by the Institute of Medicine in 2002, which in turn were based on a pioneering 1993 study of health insurance and mortality.
Deaths associated with lack of health insurance now exceed those caused by many common killers such as kidney disease.
An increase in the number of uninsured and an eroding medical safety net for the disadvantaged likely explain the substantial increase in the number of deaths associated with lack of insurance.
The uninsured are more likely to go without needed care.
Another factor contributing to the widening gap in the risk of death between those who have insurance and those who don’t is the improved quality of care for those who can get it.
The research, carried out at the Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School, analyzed U.S. adults under age 65 who participated in the annual National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) between 1986 and 1994.” (1)
Is this really the best that we can do for the least among us? If, like so many of the crimes committed throughout the last five decades; this one too will be ignored—then this country has no real reason to exist!
