Average Rates for Individual Health Plans Released
The Office of Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) for Wisconsin released the average percent increase in rates that will occur for the new individual health insurance plans that will be offered through the Federally Facilitated Exchange for Wisconsin. The following chart released by OCI compares the cost increase for a $2,000 deductible medical plan that includes drug coverage. The review identifies the percent increase for individuals age 21, 40, and 63. The geographic areas reviewed included Milwaukee, Eau Claire, Green Bay, Madison, Appleton, Wausau, Kenosha, and La Crosse.
It is important to understand that these are average increases and actual increases will be based upon the product selected, age of the insured, and the geographic location. Also, certain individuals based upon their modified adjusted gross income may qualify for federal tax subsidies that will help cover a portion of the actual premium cost. The final rates and plan options will not be available until the start of the formal Initial Enrollment Period that begins October 1st.
