Most of these resources online are based on hearsay, popular culture or are deliberately changed.
Every current text, website, article, book or opinion of this cleanse is based on the book "The Master Cleanser" by Stanley Burroughs who invented The Master Cleanse. Start here!
Your next source of quality information should come from authors who are dedicated to the topic of The Master Cleanse or have studied Stanley's teachings.
Tom Woloshyn was the subject of the interview for the first version of this Mini-Course and Ebook. Tom's book "The Complete Master Cleanse" is a complete resource regarding the origin, process, pitfalls and benefits of The Master Cleanse.
Key 2: Find an experienced and patient practitioner
Next, if you still need more quality information, find a holistic health practitioner.
Google "holistic health", "naturopath health" or other variations of these terms.
When you contact these practitioners, first ask if they can take 10 or 15 minutes to discuss The Master Cleanse with you. If they will not, hang up or leave.
Ask them direct questions about their experience with The Master Cleanse and compare that to the knowledge you have obtained from reading your source texts by Stanley Burroughs and Tom Woloshyn.
Ask the following questions:
1. Have they done The Master Cleanse?
2. How often have they done The Master Cleanse?
3. Do they often suggest The Master Cleanse and why?
4. How exactly do they recommend to do The Master Cleanse.
Key 3: Trust your intuition
Finally, once you have some trusted sources of information on the details of the Master Cleanse you will ultimately have to make the decision yourself. Don't be swayed from the solid ground of quality information towards the fear based suggestions of the uninformed. Tom explains how he deals with this with his clients:
I've asked people when they are learning about the Cleanse, and they will say "Well, I was chatting with my hairdresser," or "I was talking to the postman," or "I was talking to my neighbour." And
I ask "Have they ever done The Master Cleanse?" To which they reply, "Well, no they haven't." I often continue, "Have they ever treated one person with The Master Cleanse?" "No, they haven't,"
comes the reply. "Well, I think you should continue to trust them as long as you allow me to come in and cut and dye your hair, okay? I have never cut anybody's hair, I've never dyed anybody's hair. So this is what we're going to do. You're going to go to them for cleansing information, and you're going to come to me for your hair."

I say to anybody is: "first do the research (ask quality questions
to qualified sources), and then decide for themselves if The Master
Cleanse is right for you. That may seem obvious, but to me it
actually seems counter-productive, since after-all, we are all so
unique. So what about me? What about my situation? Will The Master
Cleanse work for me? Is it right for me?
Key 1: Special Situations; You are not special
Tom Woloshyn, author of the book "The Complete Master Cleanse", and
subject of this Mini-Course and Ebooks versions 1.0 says "There are
NO special situations, and you are NOT special"
There are seemingly infinite reasons NOT to do the Master Cleanse
that cover an every perspective,however I break them down into 3
realms:
- Physical: What about my heartburn? I am constantly sick.
- Psychological: I can't do that, it would be way to difficult not to eat
- Logical: This can't be good for me, what about calories and protein
Just by considering The Master Cleanse, you have signified you are
willing to change your beliefs that have been established
throughout your life by society at large, your parents, teachers
and friends.
Key 2: Most Common and Important Situations
Having said all that above, there are still some situations that
should always cause pause, and it is important and healthy that you
are aware of them. Never apologize about addressing your health in
a personal and conscious way.
- Organ Transplants: Perhaps the only true situation that would
preclude you from doing The Master Cleanse. Once thought that the
stimulated immune system might cause the rejection of the organ,
anecdotal evidence has caused this notion to come under scrutiny.
- Diabetes: Tom: "I've treated several diabetics--types I and
II--who have done the Master Cleanse and their diabetes has gone
away"
- Pregnancy: Tom: "When my wife had reproductive cancer, although
we weren't aware at the time, she was actually pregnant. She went
on a lemonade diet and her cancer went into remission and of course
our baby was very healthy"
- Cancer: Remissions are frequently claimed both in combination
with traditional western treatment and while on The Master Cleanse
alone.
- Medication: Always consult your doctor first, but medication
should not be taken while on The Master Cleanse.
- Supplements: Stopping all supplements is essential during The
Master Cleanse.
- Addictions: Ideal for breaking addictions. Has been shown to be
abused by addicts as a "Reset" button.
- Under Weight: Weight gain is possible while doing The Master
Cleanse as many have testified to.
Key 3: Other Therapies with or without the Master Cleanse
When considering The Master Cleanse, one should also consider these
supplemental or adjunct therapies to either do along side The
Master Cleanse, or even instead of it, although, according to Tom,
he almost always recommends The Master Cleanse to serve as the
centre piece for a treatment plan:
With these so-called special situations, there's a sense that the
Master Cleanse may not be all people should be using. They might
want to consider some type of massage or body work. Or think about
using (color) therapy, or essential oils. There are plenty of
treatments--from herbal infusions to countless therapies--that can
supplement the Cleanse, making it easier, quicker and more
effective.
Some of these therapies include:
- Massage: Stimulating energy and circulation
- Reflexology or Vita-Flex: Pressure points stimulate energy flow
and healing
- Colon Lifts: Sunken, misshaped or "Prolapsed" colon cause poor
digestion and many disease symptoms.
- Color Therapy: Color is energy. Our bodies are energy vibrating
at certain frequencies. Match the ailment frequency with the
corresponding treatment frequency
- Essential Oils: The active chemicals in essential oils are
absorbed just like the ingredients in common pharmaceuticals such
as hormone replacement therapy cream and nicotine patches

"The Master Cleanse is such a simple program. There is nothing that
works more simply than this: first, squeeze lemon, maple syrup,
cayenne pepper mixed in water, drink throughout the day whenever
one is hungry, a minimum of six to twelve glasses a day. Then take
a laxative, morning and evening; or in place of the morning
laxative, you can do salt water."

This Mini-Course is not meant to explain these finer details.

But let me break it down into as few words a possible:
1. Pre-Cleanse ⁃ Time spent before you cleanse on research and old
diet habits
2. Ease-In (Optional) ⁃ A reverse of the Ease-Out process that
slowly eliminates toxic and complex foods from your diet in
preparation for the Lemonade Diet usually lasting 3 days.
3. Lemonade Diet ⁃ A period of time (usually 10 days or more)
consuming all nutrition and calories from a lemonade drink mix made
from fresh lemon, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and pure water.
4. Cleansing ⁃ Manually stimulating bowel movements to eliminate
hardened matter, dissolved toxins and useless waste in the absence
of fibre in a diet designed to rest the digestive system
5. Ease-Out ⁃ 3 days of gradual re-introduction of more complex
foods starting with Orange Juice, graduating to fruit and vegetable
juices or broths, then finally adding soups, salads, grains and
fats.
6. Post-Cleanse ⁃ A new relationship with food and eating hopefully
will continue to a more complete, healthy and proportionate sized
meal plan with periodic cleanses 3,6,9 12 months apart.
Key 2: Consequences of Variations
There are really only 3 parts of the process that are open to
variation and any consequences.
1. The Lemonade Ingredients
⁃ Lemons: If your lemons aren't fresh, you won't get the active
enzymes critical to breaking down molecules and creating molecules
in your body. You need these enzymes. This is critical
⁃ Maple Syrup: The sugar in the Maple syrup is your primary
calorie source, but High Grade syrup is full of nutrients and
minerals that your body will need during the cleanse. Using table
syrup will deprive your body.
⁃ Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne is a super food containing powerful
ingredients. It's a blood thinner, and a catalyst for metabolism
and is a loosing agent.
⁃ Water: Tap water is full of toxins. Distilled water is dead and
lacks minerals and trace elements.
2. The Lemonade Process: Premixing your drink will kill the
enzymes in the Lemon. Drinking your lemonade in a timely fashion is
key. Drink early, drink often (when ever you feel hungry or weak),
and make it last throughout the day.
3. Laxatives and The Salt Water Flush: The laxative must be taken
each night to produce a more significant cleanse through
eliminations. The SWF can be done alone, but is know to have less
significant movements of hardened matter.
Key 3: Common, Acceptable Substitutes and Additions
There are some variations that were described by Stanley Burroughs.
You should assume any other variation is not acceptable. (more
details in the Ebook and Website).
1. Lemons: Can use limes
2. Maple Syrup: Can use Sugar Cane or Sorghum
3. Laxatives and Teas: Can use Salt Water Flush (See website for
details).

Choosing a time to start The Master Cleanse might seem as simple as
drinking lemonade. But like the lemonade, you might be surprised
how something so simple, can be so very profound.
Key 1: Now's Always a Good Time: It's never a good time
Tom Woloshyn' author of "The Complete Master Cleanse" (buy here
http://themastercleanse.org/tcmc) and subject of the interview for
the 1.0 version of this Mini-Course and Ebook explains:
I tell people that now is always a good time. I ask them if there
is ever a good time to be sick, to which they reply no, of course
not. Exactly. In other words, don't wait even longer until you're
really sick. Use it as a preventative measure. Just do the cleanse.
Don't procrastinate. Don't find excuses.
Common Excuses:
- Too cold/hot out.
- Too sick: I feel a cold coming on.
- Too hurt. Oh I just injured myself.
- Too much to do. If I wasn't so busy.
- Too afraid. That can't be good for you.
Key 2: Planning The Calendar
I believe the best time on the calendar month to do The Master
Cleanse starts on a Monday (if you don't do the Ease-In, and Friday
before if you do). I like the milestones falling on the particular
days. I find it very helpful psychologically that I only have 1
full weekend on the Lemonade and a short easy second week.
- Ease-In - 3 Days: Optional - Start on a Friday
- Lemonade Diet - 10 Days: Start on a Monday, End 10 days later on
Wednesday
- Ease-Out - 3 Days: Start on Thursday end on Saturday in time for
a night out and regular eating Sunday
I believe the best time in the calendar year to do the Master
Cleanse is after major holidays of the 4 seasons: Winter, Spring,
Summer and Fall.
- Winter - January: First Monday following New Years Day.
- Spring - April: First Monday following Easter Sunday
- Summer - July: First Monday following US July 4th and Canadian
July 1st.
- Fall - October: First Monday following US Columbus Day and
Canadian Thanksgiving.
Considering the calendar drastically reduces the cases of "The
Suddenlys" --where suddenly people remember a birthday or event
that falls in the middle of The Master Cleanse and causes them to
either not start, or to quit.
Key 3: Success Ratio For New Cleansers Starting
Well, I've been quite successful my whole practice with getting
people on the Cleanse. I place virtually everyone I treat on it,
regardless of age or condition. In fact, I can think of probably
closer to ten, who I've been unable to persuade to do the Master
Cleanse.
Over 1,000 Treated and 10 Not Started
How have I done this? Okay, by clearly and concisely explaining how
it works. That it's simply a detoxification process, and that
these toxins within the body are the underlying cause of their
conditions. I tell them they don't necessarily have to believe this
at first, that it's just a concept. In this way, I don't
necessarily ask them to change all their belief systems, merely to
consider an alternative.
In fact, I also tell people how skeptical I once was. I was so
skeptical and so stubborn that I set out to personally expose this
work as complete and total quackery, that by doing those ten days I
changed my life. It was the best thing I've ever done. It showed me
how little I knew and how ignorant I was about health.

I understand the value of a plan. There is a reason to plan, to
practice. It makes things easier. And that is what we are after
isn't it? We want to succeed.
Key 1: Do you need a plan?
There are really a few areas that would benefit from your plan.
Consider the following:
- Daily and Weekly Schedule: What time do you wake up? Where do
you have to be? What kind of schedule do you keep? Make yourself
fully aware of any obligations that might have slipped your mind
like babysitting or poker night.
- Doing the SWF: This is a 2 hour ordeal where you need instant
access to a bathroom. It is private and even embarrassing. It sucks
when friends see wet spots on your bottom :(
- Making the lemonade: The process is a little messy, and though it
only takes a few minutes, it always seems out of place in an world
where fast food and bag lunches are the norm.
Key 2: Dress Rehearsal
Tom Woloshyn' author of "The Complete Master Cleanse" (buy here
http://themastercleanse.org/tcmc) and subject of the interview for
the 1.0 version of this Mini-Course and Ebook explains:
"This is why actors have rehearsals, so that they practice until
they get it right so when it comes time to do it for real, everyone
knows what to do."
Tips for your dress rehearsal.
- Dedicating space: Consciously choose where you will set aside
space for your daily chores of making the lemonade and storing your
ingredients and equipment.
- Plan for Challenges: Discover and disempower your biggest
challenges to your will power. If there are cookies everywhere
--hide them (if you feel you need to).

So which of these therapies is right for each individual? Of course
