A 31-year-old man was arrested after attacking 10 people with a sledgehammer Friday night, according to Henderson police.
Las Vegas resident Damien D. Robins, who was being held in Henderson Detention Center, is facing six counts of attempted murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon. Police said the attacks occurred in the span of an hour in Boulder City and Henderson.
None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.
The spree started about 8 p.m. when Robins attacked a woman in a car with a hammer in a convenience store parking lot in Boulder City. Police said he later attacked two older people at an auto parts store parking lot.
Robins ran a driver off the road on U.S. Highway 93 and then struck the driver several times with the hammer, police said. He drove off and did the same thing to another driver, they said.
He then drove to Henderson, cut off a driver at Greenway Road and Horizon Drive and attacked him with the hammer, then headed to Heather Drive, where he cut off a fourth driver and attacked that person with the hammer, police said.
Robins drove to Foothill High School where he hit a man with the hammer and fled as officers were arriving, police said. He drove to a Taco Bell where he blocked a vehicle at the drive-thru and attacked both the vehicle and the driver with the hammer, they said.
He then sped into a nearby neighborhood where he cut off another driver and heavily damaged the car with the hammer, police said. The driver of that car was not injured.
Robins surrendered to police after a pursuit about 9 p.m., when he was confronted by a K-9 officer on Arrowhead Canyon Drive.
Police said some of the victims were taken to various hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Henderson spokesman Keith Paul said this kind of incident is unusual. He said he has not seen an incident where one person was indiscriminately attacking people.
Boulder City and Henderson detectives said they don’t know a reason for the attacks. Robins had no connection to the victims. Robins’ family said he left his home a few days before the incidents and did not return. It is unknown why he was in Boulder City, police said.
Robins has a criminal background. Records show he was arrested in a robbery in 2010. The outcome of that case wasn’t immediately known Saturday. He faced no robbery charges in Friday’s hammer attacks.
