A hero is always willing to perform the Heimlich maneuver – even on his wedding day.
Los Angeles County firefighter Cody Campbell was enjoying his wedding reception in Rancho Santa Margarita with his new wife Kelly when they heard a commotion. Before his retired firefighter father could finish his best man speech, Campbell had saved a woman’s life.
“I heard a couple people yell, ‘My God, she’s choking.’ I happened to turn over to the table over here and witnessed a lady that had a complete airway obstruction,” said the elder Campbell, Craig, KABC-TV reported.
Campbell’s quick-thinking saved a 60-year-old relative of Kelly.
“I just went back on my training and just performed the Heimlich, and about five or six thrusts, a piece of meat became dislodged from her throat,” said Campbell, the station reported.
“It was the most incredible day,” said Mrs. Campbell, the station reported. “We had all of our friends and family there, and we couldn’t have asked for a better night.”
