Swiss pharmaceuticals maker Novartis opened a new billion-dollar pandemic flu vaccine manufacturing plant in November 2009 in Holly Springs, NC, with $487 million of federal funding. It will employ 350 people and crank out 150 million pandemic flu vaccines within 6 months of an influenza pandemic declaration, using cell-based technology.
North Carolina could become *the* primary battle-ground state in the vaccine rights arena.
