Unfortunately, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has a new donor. In a shocking about-face, Chick-fil-A decreased and then eliminated giving to traditionally Christian non-profits. At the same time, it ramped up donations to anti-life, anti-family, and anti-religious groups ... including thousands of dollars to the SPLC.

This is the same SPLC whose “hate map” inspired a man to load his backpack up with magazines of ammunition and Chick-fil-A sandwiches and try to violently shoot his way into the office of one of the Christian non-profits on the SPLC’s fake map seven years ago.

This shooter later confessed that he intended to smear the Chick-fil-A sandwiches onto the faces of his dead victims. And he also confessed he’d gotten the information he needed to carry out the shooting off the SPLC’s map.

Fast-forward a few years. Chick-fil-A turns around and gives money to the SPLC?! The very group that still publishes the same violence-inspiring “hate map.”

This is a complete and total betrayal of everything Chick-fil-A has stood for over the years. It abandons the Christian values that made Chick-fil-A rise to one of the top five fast-food restaurants in America.

This is very personal for us. I have friends in the building targeted by the shooter who was inspired and enabled by the SPLC. The shooter had a list of multiple organizations and the addresses of more friends of mine that he intended to target, and he got them off the SPLC’s website.

My staff even has a family member who worked in those same offices and was friends with the young man who was shot. As a wounded hero, the security guard risked his life by rushing the shooter and overpowering him. This saved countless lives in both that and other targeted organizations.

We have all counted the cost. We are committed to peacefully and professionally standing in the gap today, tomorrow, and in the coming years. Our freedom, our family, our children, and our values are way too precious to abandon.
