Learning To Serve

"It is good for young people who are doing their studies to acquire as much knowledge as possible, but their preoccupations should not end there. They must also ask themselves who or what this knowledge will serve. They need to be aware of their responsibility and say to themselves: 'Look here, given everything I have learned, I need to make myself useful and help others. It would not be right for me to be the only one to benefit.' Do doctors always choose their careers with unselfish motives? And are lawyers, chemists, engineers, economists or journalists sincerely concerned about dedicating their knowledge to the service of others? Not always. Studies in themselves do not improve people. On the contrary, they often turn them into veritable public dangers! On the other hand, knowledge in the hands of those who have worked on themselves and who have decided to use it for the common good is truly a source of blessings."
