2-26-22 What will be blamed on climate change and pressure lawmakers in the EU to enforce more carbon-reducing measures is a terrible flooding incident in western Europe. BBC News reports at least 33 people have died, and more than 70 are unaccounted for after torrential rains sparked flash floods in western states of Germany, including Rhineland-Palatinate and North-Rhine Westphalia. “It’s a disaster! There are dead, missing and many who are still in danger,” said Malu Dreyer, premier of the Rhineland-Palatinate. “All emergency services are on duty around the clock and risk their own lives,” she added. Reuters confirms at least 70 people were missing across the region of Ahrweiler.

7-21-21 Nearly 200 people had been confirmed dead with more than 700 still missing Monday, July 19, after heavy floods devastated some parts of Europe. Authorities and victims said numerous areas were caught unprepared when normally calm streams turned into torrents that swept away cars, houses and bridges and everything else in their paths. “It went so fast. You tried to do something, and it was already too late,” a resident of Schuld told Germany’s ARD public television, after the Ahr River swelled its banks. Many Germans were reportedly angry that they had not been warned far enough in advance about the floods that devastated their cities and towns.

National Weather Service predicts heavy floods not likely to occur in Mississippi Delta this spring

4-6-21 The National Weather Service (NWS) assured that heavy floods are not likely to inundate the Mississippi Delta this spring. In its 2021 Spring Flood Outlook report, issued in March, the NWS forecast that the overall risk of flooding is “near normal” this season for the Mississippi River and its tributaries. The “near normal” risk was thanks to the dry conditions during last year’s late summer and fall. These dry conditions continued into the winter, causing limited snowpack to form and melting most of this snowpack across a local area. Soil moisture was also lower, not saturated like last year.

8-27-20 LAKE ARTHUR—Hurricane Laura pounded the Gulf Coast for hours with ferocious wind, torrential rains and rising seawater as it roared ashore over southwestern Louisiana near the Texas border early Thursday, threatening the lives of people who didn’t evacuate. Authorities had ordered coastal residents to get out, but not everyone did in an area that was devastated by Rita in 2005.

8-20-20 Consistently heavy rainfall over the Yangtze and its tributaries has left many areas – including Sichuan Province, Gansu Province and Chongqing — submerged in water. Intense rainstorms have caused water levels to rise at the Three Gorges Dam located at the upper reaches of the Yangtze, which prompted China’s Ministry of Water Resources to issue a warning about the increased water levels on Aug. 18. The ministry said that water levels in the dam reached more than 74,000 cubic meters per second in the morning of Aug. 20 – the highest level since the dam’s commissioning in 2003 – Chinese state-run media Xinhua News Agency reported.

The 102-year-old concrete tunnel collapsedearly July 17 along the Fort Laramie-Gering irrigation canal in Wyoming, causing the tunnel to back up, breaching one of its walls and flooding nearby farmland. The water was then shut off, stopping delivery to tens of thousands of acres during a heatwave that threatens to leave crops dry and hurt the livelihoods of local farmers.

4-30-19 There are significant worries about the new spillway at Oroville, which can cause the entire dam to collapse with ease. They are: 1. Water leaking out the base of the dam (never a good thing). 2. Dirt coming out of drain pipes under the spillway, which should be totally clean water.

3-18-19 The $1.1 billion spent to repair Oroville Dam is failing as water is seeping through the rebuilt spillway threatens new mass evacuations over the risk of the dam collapsing. According to national dam expert Scott Cahill of Watershed Services of Ohio, Oroville Dam is on the same failure track as in 2017, with visible water seepage trickling from the foot of the dam and dozens of points along the dam's principal spillway. Cahill warns that warming temperatures magnified by precipitation is a growing threat to the dam. American Thinker reported on March 1 that the Sierra snow pack was at a record 113 inches, but another 44 inches fell in the next 10 days.

Flash floods caused by torrential rains killed at least 10 people on the Spanish island of Majorca and burst the banks of a river, washing away vehicles and engulfing a town in muddy water. Hundreds of emergency workers, with the help of helicopters and sniffer dogs, were searching throughout the day for other victims, and one child was still missing as of Wednesday evening. The flood hit Tuesday night and cut off the town of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, which is home to about 8,000 people and is about 40 miles from Palma, the island's capital city.

9-17-18 t’s been only days since Hurricane Florence made landfall and brought record rainfall to the Carolinas, but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has already captured data on the damage the storm inflicted. The data, in the form of aerial images, was captured after the bulk of the storm hit. So far, the only images available cover Cape Henry, Virginia, down to Oregon Inlet in North Carolina, and from Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, to Charleston, South Carolina. The National Geodetic Survey was completing data collection, attempting two missions a day. The images in the database are expected to be updated roughly once every 12 hours in an effort to make more images available online on the Hurricane Florence Imagery site.

People scoffed, “It’s ONLY a Category 1. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch starting Friday evening through Saturday evening for south-central Wisconsin and southeast Wisconsin in the areas where the worst flooding has already taken place, including Sauk, Columbia, Dodge, Marquette and Green Lake counties. Flood warnings still are in effect on Madison's Isthmus because of the release of water through the Tenney Dam, and residents along the Baraboo River are preparing for more flooding due to record high water levels. There is a slight risk for severe weather in southwest Wisconsin and a marginal risk in the rest of southern Wisconsin Friday night, with damaging winds and large hail the main hazards. Video: Potential for more heavy rain Labor Day weekend There also is a marginal risk for severe weather on Saturday and Sunday, with damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall the potential hazards.

5-9-18 SEELEY LAKE - While attention right now is on the flooding impacts along the Clark Fork River in Missoula, hydrologists have some of their focus much further upstream, where they're watching a record snowpack finally starting to melt. Most of Missoula's flooding problems are starting in the high country of the Blackfoot drainage, where places like the Swan and the backside of the Mission Mountains are still buried in snow. "The Bob Marshall Wilderness, the Mission Mountains, some of the mountains that are over along the Continental Divide, just still a lot of water left to come out of those," said National Weather Service Hydrologist Ray Nickless. "We're getting these surges of runoff coming out of the mountains and that's what's giving us our current flooding problems. But we still have a lot of water.
